moveGiving Perspective on Credit

We are often asked, “What can I do to raise my score?” The answer is that having a high score relies to two thing the bureaus must see on your report.

1) Positive Credit Payments
2) The Absence of Negative Credit Payments

It’s just that simple.

If you have nothing good on your report, and just a bunch of bad items, you won’t have a good score.

If you have positive items on your report, coupled with bad items, you won’t have a good score.

If you don’t have any bad items, but you don’t have good items either, you still won’t have a good score.

If you are looking to raise your score you need to make sure that you have an established credit instrument you have the capacity to make payments on. We say “capacity” because having positive credit does not require having debt. A credit line that you use and pay off every month works just as good as a loan- without the interest.

While paying off debt collectors is not the ideal way to clean your bad credit, if it means the items stop getting reported every month, it is a good start to creating the absence of negative items.

Make the Choice. Make the Change. Delta.
